It is a requirement of the Planning Conditions for Springstead Village to promote sustainable travel to all residents. Single occupancy car journeys increase congestion, carbon emissions and pollution in an already congested Cambridge. If you can make your way to where you need to go by another method, it can result in a more relaxing, cheaper and quicker travel experience, not to mention being much healthier.
Much of this information is contained in the Travel Information Pack that has been sent to you or can be downloaded here.
Travel Plan and Steering Group
To reduce single occupancy car journeys, Springstead Village has a Travel Plan.
This plan needs to be a living document that is moulded by residents of Springstead Village to keep it up to date, effective and working for you. Please contact either Leanne Gunn or Andrew Chipchase at Wormald Burrows if you have any questions relating to the Travel Plan and suggestions on how it can be improved.
If you wish to be a part of a steering group to help in this moulding progress and guide the development of your Travel Plan, we would love to hear from you. Please contact either Leanne or Andrew.

Walking
Springstead Village has been designed to make walking and cycling easy, and is located in an area that has many local amenities within a 30 minute walk from your new home. These facilities include a Tesco Superstore, a David Lloyd Leisure Centre, Primary and Secondary Schools, a medical centre, library and employment areas.
A map showing the walking routes around Cherry Hinton and locations of local amenities, including schools, can be downloaded here.
The closest convenience store for your everyday groceries is a Nisa Local, which is a 5 to 10 minute walk away on Cherry Hinton Road.

Cherry Hinton High Street is about a 15 minute walk away and has a range of facilities that include take-aways, a Tesco Express, a hairdresser, a pub, a pharmacy, a launderette and dry cleaners, and a post office.

The closest bus stops are located on Cherry Hinton Road and are a 5 minute walk away, allowing access to Cambridge City Centre and the Railway Station. Buses are frequent, so make a great, sustainable alternative to reaching the centre without the hassle of driving and parking.
In addition, there are footpaths that can take you to the local countryside to Teversham. A walk into Cambridge will take about 50 minutes and can be accessed along Coldhams Lane or via The Tins Greenway.
Cycling

Cambridge Station is approx. 2.8km away from Springstead Village, while Cambridge Retail Park is 2.6km, Grafton Shopping Centre 3.2km, Addenbrookes Hospital 3.2km and Cambridge Business Park 4.8km.

The Fulbourn Greenway, which is being developed, takes in The Tins route to central Cambridge and Cambridge Station.
At Cambridge Station there is a CyclePoint that provides safe and secure cycle parking for almost 3000 bikes. This makes cycling to catch the train, while knowing there is safe parking; a great alternative to driving.

Health Benefits
You are most likely aware of the health benefits of walking and cycling and using the car less, but here are a few key facts:
Being active is proven to lower the risk of heart disease, reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and can reduce the risk of cancer. Being outside and having a change of scenery can help your mental health.
Asthma is on the rise and can be caused by traffic pollution, so using the car less can help keep the air fresh and our environment cleaner.
It’s good for your back to be active, short car journeys and a desk job means very little physical movement, which can cause a negative impact on posture and circulation.
If you can make your way to where you need to go by another method, it can result in a more relaxing, cheaper and quicker travel experience, not to mention being much cleaner and healthier for both you and the environment.
